THE TSAR'S FAILURE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS OF RUSSIA
In the early years of the 20th century Russia needed a leader of great strength and capability and Nicholas II failed to meet the challenge; consequentially, revolutionary groups formed which led to the decline and fall of the Romanov dynasty. As a boy, Nicholas was never groomed to become Tsar and this was clear through his inability to plan and prepare to go through intense industrialisation and cope with the changes facing the country. This resulted in the many social, economic and political issues for the general population. In addition to causing the grievances, Nicholas also neglected to address them and responded badly to any form of opposition. The overcrowded living spaces led to an increase in revolutionary groups as communication was easier, and the Tsar soon faced more strikes and protests than could be controlled. Instead of listening to the legitimate issues raised by the people, he ruled that any strikes and protests were now illegal and participants would be shot. This only infuriated the already angry groups and simply forced them into secrecy. Another main issue he failed to address was the unpopularity and suppression of the autocratic system, something the people felt strongly about but Nicholas upheld for personal reasons. The revolutionary groups that were formed as a result of Nicholas’ inability and refusal to listen to sections of his nation constantly rallying against him, leading to the decline and fall of the Romanov dynasty.
